DVSA data

UK driving test centres compared

Pass rates for 289 test centres, from DVSA’s own figures for April 2025 to March 2026. The gap between the best and worst is 37 percentage points, so where you book genuinely matters.

Facts checked against GOV.UK and DVSA sources on 8 September 2026. Sources are listed at the end of this page.

Highest pass rates

Small rural centres dominate the top of the table. Fewer tests means a handful of results moves the number, so treat the extremes with some caution.

Lowest pass rates

Busy city centres fill the bottom of the table. Dense traffic, complex junctions and more demanding routes all weigh on the numbers.

Busiest centres

Volume matters for cancellation hunting. A centre running thousands of tests a year frees up far more slots than a rural one, though more people are watching for them.

Reading these numbers fairly. A pass rate reflects who takes tests at a centre as much as the roads around it. Learners who travel to an “easy” centre still have to drive unfamiliar roads, which cuts the advantage. And you can change centre later using the same free service you use to hunt cancellations.

Common questions

Which UK driving test centre has the highest pass rate?

On DVSA figures for April 2025 to March 2026, Girvan had the highest car test pass rate at 71.4%. The highest-scoring centres are almost all small rural ones, where quieter roads and a smaller number of tests both push the rate up.

Which driving test centre has the lowest pass rate?

Wolverhampton had the lowest at 34.3% over the same period. The toughest centres tend to be in dense urban areas with heavy traffic and complex junctions.

What is the average driving test pass rate in the UK?

50.0% across all centres for April 2025 to March 2026, on DVSA table DRT122A. Roughly half of car driving tests end in a pass.

Can I choose which test centre to take my test at?

Yes. You pick your centre when booking on GOV.UK, and you can move to a different one later using the same free change service, subject to the 2-change limit on car tests. Booking a quieter centre within travelling distance is often faster than waiting for a slot at a busy one.
